So MOT decided to invite a few dozen developers to submit proposals that are due by June 10. 'It was very intriguing, but as we thought about it, we decided doing a rifle shot approach didn't make any sense,' Williams said, noting it saw additional offers of interest after that. MOT initially was contacted by a single, reputable developer with very specific plans, he said. 'To the extent we can work with a developer to help us achieve those things, that's where we want to be.'

'We have many needs and projects under way that are expensive,' including updates to the historic Detroit Opera House. 'Obviously we find ourselves in a hot spot in Detroit,' MOT Chairman Rick Williams said. The historic Detroit Opera House, which MOT's late founder David DiChiera brought back to life, is not included in the RFP. Proposals could cover both the surface lot and the parking center or could be separate proposals.
